The Singing Brook Farm Eating Book
"Hastily written, annoyingly annotated, and irreverently presented by Dorna Caskie"

This book started out as a Christmas present consisting of a short collection of personal recipes, but turned into a "real" book celebrating family-approved cookery and shared silliness.

KNOWN ERRATA PRIOR TO MAY 2009:
  • In the recipe Bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with almonds, the sidebar includes an explanation of how to remove the bitter inner skins from almonds. The almonds must be previously SHELLED in order for this method to work.
  • In the recipe Peter’s “Black Cats”, the ingredients should include "One square melted unsweetened chocolate".
  • In the recipe French Toast, the ingredients should include "Two tablespoons of 50% sugar/50% cinnamon ".
  • There were also quite a few typos in the older versions. (Others will be fixed if they are found.)

  • PLEASE NOTE: If you purchased an older version of the Eating Book and are distressed by these errata, I will try to make amends. Please mail your older copy to Fearsome Foursome Publications, 268 Washington Street, Groveland, MA 01834 USA, and I will mail you the newest version (only guarenteed to have FEWER typos), as well as refund to you the postage required to send the earlier version back to me.
    Excelsior 1919
At the beginning of 1919, John Rippey Litchfield was a junior officer in the United States Navy, serving in the North Atlantic aboard the storied USS Panther. The Great War was essentially over, but the military machine ground on as the apparatus of the war was slowly dismantled.

Litchfield was a young Bostonian, coming into adulthood against the backdrop of the War. This book is a transcription of Litchfield's personal diary, featuring his detailed, thoughtful, and often whimsical observations about his mission, his fellow sailors, and the civilians he met in France and Scotland.

Maps, editorial, and historical notation have been added by Litchfield's granddaughter, Dorna Caskie.

Excelsior 1919 is currently not available for sale.
